A friend asked me to do a little segment about what I said to Johnny Depp the four times I met him. So I decided I would do that... and turn it into an informational seminar in the process, in the event you too one day get to say a few words to the famous man.
First, I'd like to start with the basic DON'Ts. These are things to always remember when you are along the barriers, and that way the crew, Johnny, and the people around you won't have any complaints that you are there.
1.) Do not scream.
2.) Do not push.
3.) Do not lunge.
4.) Do not ask Johnny to marry you.
Now although these seem fickle (fickle? is that the word I'm looking for?) and slightly silly, they are actually very serious. Violating these rules could potentially ruin the chances of you AND the people around you meeting Johnny Depp.
Basically, what this is saying is, behave like you would on a daily basis with the normal people that you are around daily. (That is, unless you happen to scream and cry and freak out over average citizen. Then I would recommend you seek some help. I hear Bellin in Green Bay is very good for that.)
So now that we have established the basics, I shall show you what your reward could be for following those simple rules...

Now, onto the ADVANCED segment. This is for those who have already gotten the "Johnny-Shock" out of their system. These are the things that even the experienced Johnny Watchers mess up on. (Especially myself.)
The advanced DO's of meeting Johnny Depp.
1.) Do smile and enjoy the moment.
2.) Do know what hand you want him to shake prior to his arrival at your 1 1/2 plot of barricade. (if he's going left-right, put out your right hand. If it's right-left, he prefers your left hand. Tricky, huh? That's where I've messed up before.)
3.) Do take an opportunity while waiting to get a picture, to prove to your friends you met Johnny.
4.) Do have a sentence to say prior to his arrival.
Sounds simple, right? Wrong. Even the pros at Johnny Watching screw up on these at least once. Take me for example. I repeated myself to Johnny from the last time I had met him, and couldn't figure out what hand he should shake when he came in the opposite direction of Oshkosh.
Which brings us to the advanced DON'T's of meeting Johnny.
1.) Don't take so many pictures that you forget he's right in front of you.
2.) Don't say exactly what the person next to you said, even if it's what you had planned on saying. (Which is why having a back-up sentence is always a good idea.)
3.) Don't freeze up and look like a confused squirrel, especially if you were one of the calmest fans out there all day.
There could be a few more to add to the Don't list, but I think we are good enough for now.
Now that I have shared my expertise on meeting Johnny Depp, perhaps I should share a bit about meeting other actors and actresses, such as Stephen Dorff, Emilie de Ravin, Chris Stolte, and-my favorite!-John Michael Bolger. This can also go for meeting extras and stand-ins, who are usually equally as interesting as the stars of the movie.

Sometimes people ask me what the point is of standing outside for 15 hours watching what is basically people walking back and forth guarding trailers or eating lunch. For me, it's the easy answer of, "I'm researching film production, and base camp is the closest you can really get other than actually being in the movie."
But after doing this standing outside for 15 hours thing... um, well, multiple times, you begin to realize that there are other added bonuses of being there.
Which include the following:
-Talking to the crew
-Getting to know security
-Making new friends
-Learning how to drive new places (I don't get lost as much anymore!)
-Meeting actors/actresses you didn't expect to see or do meet and greets
Aha! Did you say meeting other actors?
Nope. I said eating half a poptart for lunch. Which is also very true. If you want to be malnutritioned and dehydrated, try watching filming 4 days in a row in Oshkosh.
Back to the actors, though. Oshkosh was a bit of a surprise for me, actually. I showed up that Friday after barely getting a go-ahead from the principal (I had to go to first block that day in fact), just as Johnny was leaving to film. So I took my place next to my buddy Natalie (yep, same name as me :-)) and waited. Well, there were only about 50-100 people out on the barriers, and out walks a group of actors. Emilie de Ravin, Stephen Dorff, and Chris Stolte! And they spent quite a bit of time with us signing autographs, taking pictures with us, and just talking. Really fun.
But the really exciting thing is when you ask a security guard (who you have gotten to know pretty well from standing out there) if a certain actor is there. Say, John Michael Bolger. And he tells you...
"Oh, him! No, he was in Columbus, but he's not here."
And your heart sinks.
Then you see more filming comes up, and not even considering the fact that the certain actor could be at the newest round of filming in Columbus, even though it was in the back of your mind. Hoping. You arrive, the security guard recognizes you, and a few hours later....
John Michael Bolger: "So, why would you want to meet me?"

Honestly. I can't get over that moment. It's so engraved in my memory it's nearly pathetic. Nah, not really. Anyhoo.
That moment just proves that standing outside for hours and hours really pays off. Along with the fact that there's a little Oshkosh fan group that is almost currently to the second contacting each other trying to figure out the next time they can get together for more filming.
Good Times.
THIRD WATCH quote of the day:
Before I write this quote, I just wanted to say that I got it straight out of the episode I watched last night, because it's one of my favorites and cracked me up at about 1 in the morning. It's more of a scene than a quote, but it's worth it.
Cruz: And he uh, thinks you're a pervert.
Bosco: What?
Cruz: Did you ask him about his johnson?
Bosco: I asked him about his little tiny johnson. Shoulda ripped it off him, too.
Cruz: I'd hate to handle that complaint. Guess it'd be, uh, theft.
Bosco: Petty larsony (spelling?? you get the point [i hope])
Tia Texada as Sgt. Maritza Cruz... I wanted to be just like her in 7th grade :-)
THIRD WATCH fact of the day:
Third Watch was well-known for all of it's famous guest stars. These included people anywhere from classic TV shows to hip-hop/rap artists. Such as Henry Winkler, Gene Simmons, DMX, Treach, and Wyclef Jean. The list of these names goes on and on.
JOHNNY DEPP quote of the day:
May the wind always be on your back and the sun upon your face and may the winds of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.
-Blow
I'm starting a new daily! I just thought of it, after counting up how many Third Watch pictures I have on my computer. (525 if you were wondering, and still counting) so.... here it is...
THIRD WATCH picture of the day!
Tia Texada as Sgt. Cruz and Gene Simmons as Donald Mann in the Season 6 premiere, More Monsters.
